ROAD CLOSURE, BRIDGE INSPECTIONS AND TRAFFIC UPDATE INFORMATION
I-5 Bow Hill Rest Area Closed near Burlington
BURLINGTON – WSDOT will close the southbound Interstate 5 Bow Hill Rest Area for three days to widen the rest area’s sidewalk and provide better wheelchair accessibility. The rest area needs to be closed because the sidewalk will be closed and access to the facilities will be limited.
CLOSURE
Crews will close the Bow Hill rest area from 8 a.m. Monday, April 25 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 27.
This $13,500 project will widen 180 feet of sidewalk to eight feet wide bringing it up to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. The widened sidewalk will easily accommodate two wheelchairs side by side.

WSDOT Closes I-5 Lanes in Mount Vernon Next Week
BURLINGTON – WSDOT will close lanes on Interstate 5 at night in Mount Vernon next week while crews build the new Second Street Bridge.
Lane Closures
· Crews will close the left lane of I-5 in both directions from 7 p.m.
to 5 a.m. each night Monday, April 25 through Thursday, April 28.
During the lane closures, drivers should plan ahead, allow extra time for travel and expect delays. The closures are weather dependent.
When this $14.1 million project is complete in fall 2005, the new Second Street Bridge will have three 12-foot wide vehicle lanes, bicycle lanes, sidewalks and a height clearance of 18 feet 7 inches.

WSDOT Inspects Skagit County Bridges
BURLINGTON – WSDOT bridge maintenance crews will close lanes on two Skagit County Bridges next week for routine maintenance inspections. This routine maintenance helps protect and preserve the life of bridges.
Lane Closures
- Crews will close one westbound State Route 20 lane across the Berentson Bridges from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, April 25.
- Crews will close one State Route 20 lane in both directions across the Berentson Bridges from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26.
- Crews will close one eastbound State Route 20 lane across the Berentson Bridges from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27.
- Crews will close one State Route 11 lane across the Colony Creek Bridge from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 28. Flaggers will alternate traffic across the bridge.
Drivers should plan ahead, leave early and be prepared for delays.
WSDOT inspects bridges at least once every two years throughout a bridge’s lifetime. During the inspection, WSDOT checks the structural and hydraulic condition of the bridge, recommend repairs and determine if further investigation is needed.
