Ms. Annis' and Ms. Baldie's 6th grade classes from Bayview Elementary
School in Bow will perform a mock trial, "State of Washington
v Jack Robinson", before students, family, and members of the
public, at the Skagit County Superior Courtroom No. 2, on the 2nd
floor of the Skagit County Courthouse, on Wednesday, May 1, 2002.
The mock trial program is scheduled to run from 9:00 AM to 10:30
AM.
The trial, before a student jury, is intended to resolve the guilt
or innocence of Mr. Jack Robinson regarding his alleged intentional
homicide of Clarence Ogre. It is alleged that Mr. Robinson deliberately
caused the death of Mr. Ogre. Mr. Robinson admits to causing the
death, but contends that it was done in self-defense, according
to Skagit County District Court Judge Stephen R. Skelton.
"The mock trial will be presented totally by the students,
with members of the court staff, Skagit County Sheriff's Office,
Skagit Valley College Paralegal Association and Skagit County Bar
Association serving as resources for the students", Skelton
said. "The mock trial is a lot of fun for the students, as
well as the professionals involved, and is a great opportunity for
the students to learn about the legal process."
The 6th annual mock trial is being sponsored by Skagit County District
Court, and is being performed in connection with Law Day 2002, an
event held May 1 to expand awareness of how laws and the justice
system impact our lives.
