Skagit Shoreline Master Program Update available for Public Comment

Today, Skagit County opened the official public comment period for the revised Shoreline Master Program. Updating the Shoreline Master Program is required for compliance with Washington State’s Shoreline Management Act. The plan is available at www.skagitcounty.net/smp. The comment period will run through June 7, 2021.

This comment period follows an extensive public process for the Shoreline Master Program Comprehensive update, which culminated in 2016. The final adoption of the Shoreline Master Program did not occur at that time. The County is now required under state law to conduct this periodic review. The County will then complete both the Comprehensive Update and the Periodic Review with the completed SMP.

Comments can be provided by:

• Submitting via the online Shoreline Master Program open house at skagitsmpopenhouse.com. This is the preferred method. Please include your comments in the body of the email, rather than as attachments.
• Mailing or delivering printed/written comments to:
  • Skagit County Planning and Development Services, ATTN: Shoreline Master Program Comments,1800 Continental Place, Mount Vernon WA 98273 
• Commenting at the public hearing to be held virtually before the Skagit Planning Commission on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 6 pm. Public Hearing testimony is limited to three minutes. Information about how to testify will be available at skagitcounty.net/smp.

The next SMP monthly public meeting will be held on May 13, 2021. Official comment cannot be taken during a monthly meeting. Information and meeting details are available here.
