YOUTH FARM MACHINERY SAFETY WORKSHOP

A free four-day workshop that will teach teenagers how to safely operate and be around farm machines is scheduled in Mount Vernon for May 17, 19, and 20 from 6:00 – 9:00 P.M. (held at Mount Vernon Christian School) and May 21, 8:00 – 4:00 ( held at Barnett Implement ) . Instruction will include PTO hookup, what to do in emergency situations, implement hook-up, tractor operation, bucket operation and safety, proper hitching/towing, and much more.

Federal law requires those driving tractors for hire to be at least 16 years old. An exception is if they are 14 or 15 years old and have successfully completed a safety course like this. The workshop is sponsored by WSU Extension Livestock Advisors, Barnett Implement, and Mount Vernon Christian School.
