OFFICE OF MEDIATION SERVICES TO HONOR BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB MEMBERS
11 members of Junior Staff to Receive Awards from Skagit County
SKAGIT COUNTY - Junior Staff members from the Mount Vernon Boys and Girls Club will receive awards for their participation in a pilot program designed to teach young people how to work through conflict. Sponsored by the Skagit County Office of Mediation Services, the program provided 11 members with eleven hours of training by mediators, Jessica Lee and Kathy Reim, with the support and supervision of Kimberly Brumbaugh from Boys and Girls Club.
Boys and Girls Club members receiving the awards are Soyoung Jin, Alicyn MaiKai, Jacob Rindal, Mallory Bogardus, Isaac Martinez, Ashlee Harris, Sarah Clay, Carlos Cuellar, Marcos Rincon, Steve Arellano, and Dylan Rudnick.
On May 9 at 4:00 p.m., at the Skagit County Human Services office, Mediation Services Director Ron Feld will award certificates of competency and participation to the recipients.
"These young people have been given a background in basic communication and listening skills," said Reim.
The club members were also introduced to a simple six-step process they can use in situations that may involve conflict. As Junior Staff members, they were selected for the program because of their demonstrated leadership skills and willingness to help others.
"This program is part of the Office Of Mediation Services' commitment to promote educational opportunities for citizens of all ages to learn skill in conflict resolution," said Feld.
