GEOFF ALMVIG RECEIVES "GIS PERSON OF THE YEAR" AWARD
SKAGIT COUNTY Skagit County GIS Director Geoff Almvig received the GIS Person of the Year award from the Washington Chapter of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) at their spring conference held in Tukwila last week. URISA is a non-profit association of professionals using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other information technologies to solve challenges in state and local government agencies and departments.
Almvig has served as GIS Manager of Skagit County for more than 13 years. He has been instrumental in implementing significant advancements that have resulted in new GIS capabilities for Skagit County. He led the development of Skagit Countys internet map service, IMap, which allows the public to search on and display geographic information parcels, addresses, fire districts, commissioner districts, zoning and comprehensive plan designations, zip codes, voting districts, school districts, school districts and aerial photography. This is an incredible tool for our office, said Skagit County Assessor Mark Leander. This is a first-rate customer service feature that will save users hours of time and trips to our office.
Were proud of our GIS Department and grateful for Geoffs hard work and leadership in providing cutting edge services to the citizens of Skagit County, said Commissioner Don Munks. Geoff is a respected leader in his field at both the state and federal level.
