NEW PROCEDURES ADOPTED AT GUEMES FERRY

SKAGIT COUNTY - In response to a finding by the Washington State Auditor, a temporary fourth crewmember has been added to insure that customers do not proceed onto the ferry without a ticket.

The State of Washington Auditors office has placed requirements on the ferry system to insure that all fares are collected from customers using the system. Therefore, the purser's duties have now been segregated to provide for a dedicated purser who issues tickets and a deckhand who will collect tickets. "The temporary position has been added until a permanent solution can be formulated that meets state requirements," said Steve Cox, ferry manager.

Ferry system users now will pay the required fare to the purser prior to proceeding down to the ferry ramp. Upon paying the fare, they will be issued a ticket. This ticket is to be given to the deckhand before entering onto the vessel.

FERRY HAUL OUT SCHEDULED FOR JULY IN SEATTLE

Additionally, the ferry GUEMES will be in dry dock from July 8 through July 19, 2003 and will be dry docked in Seattle at Foss Maritime. During the time the passenger only vessel is in service we will be making reasonable accommodation for persons with special needs to meet the intent and spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Persons with special needs should contact the ferry office to make personal arrangements.
