Skagit County Commissioners Declare May 18-24 National EMS Week

The Skagit County Board of Commissioners declared May 18-24 National Emergency Medical Services Week during a proclamation ceremony on Monday at the Skagit County Commissioners hearing room in Mount Vernon.

Commissioners Ron Wesen and Ken Dahlstedt noted this year’s national EMS Week theme of “EMS: Dedicated for Life,” and praised Skagit County’s paramedics, EMTs, first responders, firefighters, administrators and educators for the work they do to serve and keep their communities safe.

Commissioner Sharon Dillon was unable to attend Monday’s proclamation.

EMS providers work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to the emergency medical needs of Skagit County residents. The county has more than 400 first responders, EMTs and medics, and many more volunteer fighters working in 31 fire districts and agencies.

Skagit County Medic One will honor its EMS personnel with a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. at Burlington Fire Department, 350 Sharon Ave., in Burlington. All EMS providers in the county are welcome to attend.

Medic One will also offer a distracted driving presentation to the public at 11 a.m., Friday, May 23, at Burlington Public Library, 820 E. Washington Ave., in Burlington. This presentation is free.
