SKAGIT COMMISSIONERS VOTE TO EXTEND HOURS OF GUEMES ISLAND FERRY

SKAGIT COUNTY – The Skagit County Board of Commissioners voted 2-1 today to extend service hours of the Guemes Island Ferry to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The current weekend schedule will stay in effect. Commissioner Ken Dahlstedt voted against extending the hours.

The new ferry hours will be extended on a trial basis for two years, according to Ferry Manager Steve Cox. According to Cox the extended hours will generate approximately $80,000 in additional annual revenue compared to $100,000 in additional expense.

The ferry hours will go in effect on or before July 1, 2006.
