Skagit County Parks & Recreation celebrates National Trails Day

SKAGIT COUNTY - Skagit County Parks & Recreation will celebrate National Trails Day Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the three locations listed below:

1. Howard Miller Steelhead Park, Rockport, WA –meet at the Park Office

2. Centennial Trail South, Lake McMurray, WA –meet at the Park parking lot, just south of the lake, and a little bit west of the Camp Brotherhood access

3. Sharpe/Montgomery Duban Headlands Parks, Southwest Fidalgo Island, WA –meet at the parks shared parking lot, 14692 Rosario Road

Various Skagit County Parks & Recreation staffers will be leading each hike. “The hikes are free and open to anyone willing to huff and puff a bit,” said Skagit County Parks and Recreation Director Bob Vaux.

The Centennial Trail hike will be the most gentle, with the Howard Miller Steelhead Park hike a close second. The Sharpe/Montgomery-Duban Headlands Parks trip will be the most rigorous, and will be tailored to the groups’ desire. Please dress for rugged outdoor fun, and pack water and snacks. Hikes will typically last two hours, but may be longer or shorter depending upon the interest of the group.
