Skagit County Board of Health approves, submits Phase 2 Variance Application
Today, the Skagit County Board of Health and the Skagit County Board of Commissioners voted to submit an official application to move forward to Phase 2 under Governor Inslee’s Safe Start plan. This application comes following the letters sent on May 22 by the Board of Health, Unified Command, First Responders and all eight Skagit County Mayors.
“Skagit County is absolutely ready to move to Phase 2 of the Safe Start plan,” said Public Health Director Jennifer Johnson. “I am thankful that our Commissioners and Board of Health continue to listen to Public Health officials during COVID-19.”
The completed application meets the criteria outlined by the Governor. Skagit County has had 7 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 14 days. Skagit County Public Health is confident that the infrastructure is in place to move forward safely.
“Skagit County residents have clearly taken social distancing guidelines provided by Governor Inslee and our Health Department very seriously. It is thanks to their efforts that we are able to meet Governor Inslee’s metric and move forward,” said Skagit County Commissioner Ron Wesen. “The low transmission rate, along with our Public Health Department’s preparedness, means that we are more than ready to move to Phase 2.”
Skagit County remains in Phase 1 of the Safe Start plan until the application is approved. Throughout the phases of the Safe Start plan, practicing good physical distancing and hand hygiene remains important. Please, when in public stay six feet apart from anyone not from your immediate household. Wear a mask, wash your hands frequently and avoid touching your face or mask with unclean hands. Governor Inslee has also required that beginning June 8, 2020 while at work, all who are medically able must wear a mask.
