June 2, 2003
SKAGIT COUNTY Skagit Teen Music Fest presents a long list of local talent in concert at the Lincoln Theatre in Downtown Mount Vernon on Friday, June 20, from 2 p.m. 5 p.m. The concert will include a feature performance by members of Prozac Staple. The event is sponsored by Skagit County Youth & Family Services, Skagit Valley Family YMCA, Youthnet, and Hugo Helmer Music, Inc. Tickets are $3 and can be purchased at the YMCA (call 419-7207) or at the door the day of the event. Local talent featured at the concert includes Cotton Candy Conspiracy, The Undetermined, Matney Cook, Will Ollam, Kim Velasco, and Fetus Joe. Funding for the event was provided by the Anacortes Arts Festival and Mount Vernon Community Wellness Council. Skagit Teen Music Fest is a result of Teen/Pro Jam, a collaborative effort between Skagit County Youth & Family Services At-Risk Intervention Specialist (ARIS) program, Skagit Valley Family YMCA, Best Place, and Hugo Helmer Music, Inc. It is held twice a month at the YMCA Teen Center in Mount Vernon. Teen/Pro Jam provides equipment and allows teens and young adults the opportunity to jam with others in a safe, supervised environment. The intent of the program is to increase music and art activities for youth in our community, said Johnna Stewart, ARIS Intervention Specialist.
