RUMBLE STRIPS WILL HELP REDUCE ACCIDENTS ON STATE ROUTE 20
BURLINGTON -The Washington State Department of Transportation will close State Route 20 for one night to install rumble strips west of Burlington.
Crews will close SR 20 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., Thursday, June 3 between Fredonia Road (milepost 55) and Peterson Road (milepost 59.5) to grind grooves into the pavement between Pulver Road and Fredonia Road. The detour will reroute motorists along Peterson Road and then back to SR 20.
SR 20 is designated as a high accident corridor. The rumble strips will grab motorist's attention and help prevent them from crossing over into oncoming traffic. This will help reduce the number and severity of accidents that occur along this highway.
The rumble strips are an
interim safety improvement until the Washington State Department of Transportation
builds a permanent safety project in 2007. Crews will widen five miles of SR
20 to four lanes, between Interstate
5 and Fredonia Road and install a concrete barrier between Fredonia Road and
Pulver Road to separate opposing lanes of traffic.
