EMERSON STUDENTS COMPLETE MEDIATION SKILLS CLASS WITH SKAGIT COUNTY MEDIATION SERVICES

SKAGIT COUNTY – Five students from Emerson High School in Mount Vernon recently completed a ten-hour course in basic mediation skills sponsored by Skagit County Mediation Services. Students Lori Nguyen, Teresa Fryer, Luis Puga, Jamie Rodriquez, and Erin Beach-Garcia were recognized for their accomplishments by the Skagit County Board of Commissioners on June 9, during their regular meeting.

“They have demonstrated the ability to help others have a conversation with a focus on listening and problem solving,” said Kathy Reim, program director.

After the Commissioners meeting, the students met to create a video that will be available for use at Emerson High School and offered for viewing on government access television. “The hope is that these students and others who are interested in this training will become a cadre of young Skagit County mediators to work in peer mediation and with adults in appropriate mediation work,” said Reim.
