ALL SR 536 LANES CLOSED AT NIGHT IN MOUNT VERNON FOR NEW SECOND STREET BRIDGE
Next week drivers will notice that a section of the new Second Street Bridge over Memorial Highway (State Route 536) will be a little taller. Crews will close Memorial Highway at night and remove temporary bridge supports that were originally used to begin building the new bridge.
Crews will unbolt the bridge supports and pull them out from under the bridge. Removing the two-foot tall bridge supports will boost the bridges height clearance over Memorial Highway to 18 feet 7 inches. Thats more than four feet taller than the original bridge that was demolished.
Closures
· Wednesday, June 15 crews will close Memorial Highway at night from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. under the Second Street Bridge.
· Thursday, June 16 crews will close Memorial Highway at night from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. under the Second Street Bridge.
WSDOT will provide a signed detour route through city streets for drivers during the closures. Drivers should plan ahead, allow extra time for travel and expect delays.
When this $14.1 million
project is complete in fall 2005, the new Second Street Bridge will have three
12-foot wide vehicle lanes, bicycle lanes, sidewalks and a height clearance
of 18 feet 7 inches. For more detailed information about the project visit http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/I5/2ndSt_BridgeRepl.
