Invitation to community beach seine sampling

SKAGIT COUNTY -Come learn about local marine life with Skagit County Marine Resources Committee (Skagit MRC) and Shannon Point Marine Center as they co-sponsor the fourth annual Community Beach Seine sampling event.

The volunteer sampling event will take place at Ship Harbor, next to the San Juan Ferry Terminal in Anacortes, on Wednesday, June 19 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Students, community members, and any interested people are invited to assist with the collection of scientific data and monitor the status of our local marine resources. Skagit County Beach Watchers, Skagit MRC members, and students and staff of Shannon Point Marine Center will be on-hand to lead the sampling effort and answer any questions.

Everything collected in the beach seine (net) will be recorded and added to the fish database maintained by the Skagit River Systems Cooperative for future research.

Most of the activity will take place on the beach, and it's a good idea to wear shoes or boots you don't mind getting wet. It would help the Skagit MRC to know ahead of time how many volunteers plan to attend, but drop-ins are always welcome.
