AUDITOR REPORTS VEHICLE FEES TO INCREASE EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2002

SKAGIT COUNTY - Several vehicle fees will increase as a result of State Senate Bill 6814, a bill relating to the revision of transportation fees, according to Skagit County Auditor Norma Brummett. Fees relating the passage of this bill are:

  • Effective July 1, 2002, title application fees will increase from $1.25 to $5.00 on all vehicle title transactions. This includes all types of vehicles and all types of title transactions, with the exception of mopeds whose fee increase will take place September 1, 2002.
  • 3-day trip permit fees will increase from $15.00 to $20.00 effective July 1, 2002.
  • Beginning September 1, 2002, a license tab fee of $30.00 will now be collected on vehicle use classes that were not previously included with the passage of SB 6865, which adopted the $30.00 licensing fee on most vehicles. The additional vehicle use classes to now be charged the $30.00 fee will be trailers, travel trailers, motorcycle trailers, house moving dollies, mopeds and a few mobile homes that may be licensed.

In addition, snowmobile license fees with September 30, 2002 expirations will increase to $30.00.

Fees for duplicate titles and registrations will increase effective July 1, 2002 from $1.00 to $1.25, based on 1997 legislation. This new fee affects requests for duplicate vehicle registrations, duplicate vessel titles, duplicate vessel registrations and replacement vessel validation decals.

Also, SSB 6814 repeals the law regarding the "PERSONAL" use class (PER) of small trailers. All trailers previously licensed or to be licensed with the former "PERSONAL" use class will change to trailer use class effective September 1, 2002.
