SR 20 REDUCED TO ONE LANE FOR PAVING NEAR ANACORTES NEXT WEEK
BURLINGTON Washington State Department of Transportation and its contractor Rinker Materials will close lanes in both directions of State Route 20 next week to pave sections of highway between Sharpes Corner and the Swinomish Slough Bridge.
Closures
· Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15 crews will close one eastbound lane of SR 20 around the clock from 7 a.m. Monday to 9 a.m. Friday, between Sharpes Corner and the Swinomish Slough Bridge.
· Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15 crews will close one westbound lane of SR 20 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. at night, on two separate nights this week, between March Point Road and Sharpes Corner.
· Monday, July 11 and Tuesday, July 12 crews will close lanes both nights from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through the Sharpes Corner intersection.
Drivers should plan ahead, leave early and be prepared for delays. A majority of the paving work is weather dependent and will be delayed and rescheduled as necessary. Crews cannot pave in the rain.
State Route 20 is the only road on and off Whidbey Island and the only highway in and out of Anacortes. Drivers should plan ahead and expect delays if traveling on SR 20 to or from Whidbey Island and the Anacortes Ferry Terminal.
The pavement on SR 20 has exceeded its lifespan and needs to be re-paved to create a safe driving surface for the 30,000 cars that use the highway each day.
