Beginning August 1, public traveling along a section of the Cascade
River Road, located approximately 10 miles east of Marblemount in
Skagit County, may experience up to 20-minute delays while a washed-out
bridge is removed from the Cascade River.
Contract work crews from Skagit County Public Works Department will
be removing an old, washed-out bridge from the Cascade River near
Lookout Creek along the Cascade River Road. The concrete and metal
bridge, which is owned by Skagit County, washed into the river during
a major flood that occurred in the early 1980s.
The bridge needs to be removed because it poses a safety hazard,
especially for recreationists rafting down the Cascade River, said
Jim Chu, Skagit Wild and Scenic river manager for the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie
National Forest
For safety reasons, flag persons will be controlling traffic on
a section of the Cascade River Road. Travelers using the road to
access recreational areas in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest
and the North Cascades National Park, including the popular Cascade
Pass Trailhead, may experience up to 20-minute delays while crews
from Skagit County Public Works department remove the bridge from
the river.
The project is expected to take approximately 14 days to complete.
Work will take place during weekdays only, so as to minimize impacts
to motorists.
