SKAGIT COUNTY ADOPTS MORATORIUM
ON DOG AND CAT KENNELS
SKAGIT COUNTY - On July 2nd, the Skagit County Board of Commissioners adopted
an interim ordinance declaring an emergency and adopting an immediate moratorium
on the acceptance of special use permit applications for dog and cat kennels
within all unincorporated areas of Skagit County. The moratorium will provide
County staff an opportunity to work with stakeholders to review current regulations
and develop amendments as necessary to sufficiently regulate kennels in order
to ensure the protection of the public health, safety and welfare. It is expected
that the new regulations will be in place and the moratorium lifted within the
next 6 months, but it could be up to 1 year.
The Skagit County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the interim
Ordinance (O20070008) on Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. in the Commissioners'
Hearing Room, 1800 Continental Place, Mount Vernon. Views for or against Interim
Ordinance O20070008 are invited by attendance, representation, or letter.
Interim Ordinance O20070008 is available on the Skagit County website at www.skagitcounty.net.
Copies can also be obtained at Skagit County Planning & Development Services,
