NEW LEFT TURN LANE ON SR 20 AT HELMICK ROAD

BURLINGTON – The Washington State Department of Transportation will restripe the lanes on State Route 20 in Sedro-Woolley next week to improve safety and reduce accidents.

Workers will paint a new left turn lane at Helmick Road between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 20. The new left turn lane will help prevent rear-end accidents for eastbound motorists turning off SR 20 onto Helmick Road. Two lanes of traffic will remain open during construction. This work is weather dependent.

WSDOT, Skagit County and the Upper Skagit Tribe are working together to further improve the SR 20 and Helmick Road intersection. Skagit County will widen SR 20 and realign Helmick Road in 2006 in coordination with the Upper Skagit Tribe.
