COMMISSIONERS APPROVE $1,788,000 FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

SKAGIT COUNTY – The Skagit County Board of Commissioners signed a resolution today approving $1,788,000 for economic development projects. Funding for the projects is derived from a .08 percent rebate on Rural County Sales and Use Tax, from the State of Washington to be used for public facility financing that benefit economic development.

In 2002, the Board of Skagit County Commissioners adopted Resolution 17837, issuing bonds of $8,000,000 to finance public facilities within Skagit County with the principal and interest being paid from sales tax collected. A Public Facilities Committee meets regularly to make recommendations to the Commissioners.

Projects approved today included:

Bullerville Utility District. Water Utility Replacement. $50,000.
Port of Skagit County. TTM Building Improvement. $200,000.
City of Mount Vernon. College Way/Riverside Drive for turn lanes to all four corners. $300,000.
City of Mount Vernon. Freeway Drive, Stewart Road, right hand turn pocket on north side of College Way. $170,000.
Town of Hamilton. Hamilton Relocation Water System and Water Rights. $300,000.
Port of Anacortes. Pier 1 Redevelopment and Advance Compensation Site. Phase 1. $400,000.
City of Anacortes. Thompson Road Sewer Extension. $66,000.
City of Sedro-Woolley. Fruitdale/SR 20 Signalization. $249,250.
City of Sedro-Woolley. Polte Road Improvements. $152,000.

“These funds are vital for the development and maintenance of our infrastructure in Skagit County", said Commissioner Don Munks.
