SKAGIT COUNTY RECIEVES LITTER CLEAN UP MONEY

SKAGIT COUNTY – Skagit County was one of seven northwestern counties to share more than $892,000 in state grants to address litter and illegal dumping. The Community Litter Cleanup Program (CLCP), administered by the Department of Ecology, provides funding to local governments that have approved plans to clean up litter and illegal dumps and to provide anti-litter education in their communities.

The award of $73,900 in Skagit County will go to oversee a litter cleanup crew composed of Department of Corrections offenders. The crew will clean up county roadways and public access areas.

Illegal dumpsites and roadside litter continue to be a problem in Skagit County. Supervised crews cleaned up more than 400 dumpsites, cleaned 825 acres of public land and picked up litter on 913 miles of roadway shoulder, totaling 150 tons of garbage in 2001.
