Skagit reported 75 new cases since our update last Wednesday. This brings us to a total of 5,547 cases, 382 hospitalizations (increased by 16 this week), and 79 deaths. Skagit currently has a case rate of 121.1 per 100k over the last 14 days and a hospitalization rate of 4.6 COVID patients per 100k over the last seven days.

COVID-19 Testing: It’s Still Essential

With case numbers on the rise and delta circulating in Skagit County, Public Health wants to remind everyone that getting tested is still essential in our fight against the spread of COVID-19.

As a reminder, whether you have been vaccinated or not, if you’ve been around someone who has a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19, you should get tested 3-5 days after your exposure, even if you don’t have symptoms.

For information about when you should get tested (for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals) and for current testing locations, read our blog post: https://bit.ly/3Aa2v8f. For a list of testing providers, go to: https://www.doh.wa.gov/Emergencies/COVID19/TestingforCOVID19/TestingLocations.

New Data: Vaccinated vs. Unvaccinated
Rising case counts are of great concern to us here at Public Health. The delta variant is largely responsible for this new wave of cases, as it is now the predominant strain here in Washington and is far more transmissible than other variants that we've seen. While this is obviously not good news, we are reassured by the fact that the COVID-19 vaccines are proving to be effective against delta. If you are concerned, our recommendation remains: GET VACCINATED as soon as possible.
Need proof that the vaccines are working? Since February 2021, 95.3% of all PCR-confirmed COVID-19 cases in Skagit County have been in unvaccinated individuals. During this same period, 100% of deaths due to COVID-19 were in UNVACCINATED individuals.
