DAHLSTEDT APPOINTED CHAIR OF NACO FOOD SAFETY SUBCOMMITTEE

SKAGIT COUNTY – Skagit County Commissioner Ken Dahlstedt was notified last week by National Association of Counties (NACo) Chair Eric Coleman that he has been appointed chair of the NACo Food Safety Subcommittee. In addition, he also has been appointed as a member of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Steering Committee and the Rural Action Caucus Steering Committee.

A fourth generation Skagit Valley farmer, Dahlstedt also serves on the Board of Directors of Pro Fac Cooperative, a major supplier of fruit and vegetable products for Birdseye Foods.

“Agriculture is America’s most important industry and food safety has never been more important than it is today,” said Dahlstedt. “We must have more control of the quality and safety of our food supply.”

“Nothing could be more important than having our own safe food supply produced on our own U.S. farms. We must learn from recent events. Foreign food has recently resulted in the deaths of some our pets, and now we find lead paint on our children’s toys. Will our kids be next?” said Dahlstedt.
