MARINE ECOLOGY DAY SLATED FOR SEPTEMBER 11 IN ANACORTES
ANACORTES The Anacortes
Community Maritime Center and Skagit County Marine Resources Committee are sponsoring
the first ever Marine Ecology Day, scheduled for Saturday, September 11 from
9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Seafarer Memorial Park in Anacortes.
The public is invited to have fun, relax, and learn about nearshore issues,
marine life, whales, and opportunities for volunteers, said Lyndon Greene,
event organizer.
Featured speakers include Russell Barsh of the Samish Indian Nation, and Captain
Shane Aggergaard who will present a slide show at noon entitled Whales
in Our Backyard.
Mayor Dean Maxwell and Commissioner Don Munks will give the opening comments.
A lengthy list of programs and activities for children and adults will be presented
throughout the day featuring marine ecology issues.
