Skagit Board of Commissioners to get first update on local redistricting efforts on Thurs. August 26
The Skagit County Board of Commissioners will host the first of four public meetings on the 2021 redistricting efforts on Thursday, August 26, at 3:00 p.m.
Every 10 years, following the U.S. Census, Skagit County is required to redraw the boundaries of its Commissioner districts. This process is governed by State law. More information on redistricting, including instructions on how to provide comment, is available at Skagit’s 2021 Redistricting website at www.publicinput.com/SkagitCountyRedistricting.
The August 26 meeting will be held virtually. Individuals can join and participate virtually via Zoom using this link https://bit.ly/SkagitBoCCMtg.
The meeting will include an overview of the redistricting process from FLO Analytics, who Skagit County has hired to assist with the redistricting process. Redrawn boundaries will be approved by the Skagit Board of Commissioners in December 2021. Public comment will be taken at this meeting and the three following.
“We only do this once a decade, and we want to do it right,” said Commissioner Lisa Janicki, who currently serves as Chair of the Board of County Commissioners. “We’re looking forward to a collaborative process with the community to achieve equitable boundaries that will serve Skagitonians well for the next decade.”
Two other public meetings and one public hearing are scheduled for redistricting:
September 27, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (public meeting)
October 25, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (public meeting)
November 22, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (public hearing for a final redistricting plan)
Meetings this fall will be held either in a hybrid format or fully virtually, depending on best Public Health guidance at the time.
