SKAGIT COUNTY PROSECUTING
ATTORNEY ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF THREE STRIKES PROSECUTION
SKAGIT COUNTY - Skagit County Prosecuting Attorney Tom Seguine announced today
that the prosecution of State v. Lisherness was completed yesterday in Skagit
County Superior Court. The prosecution culminated with the sentencing
of Kevin Lisherness to Life in Prison without the Possibility of Release under
Washingtons Persistent Offender Accountability Act, commonly known as
the Three Strikes Law.
Superior Court Judge Susan Cook sentenced Lisherness to the life term. The sentence was handed down after a series of hearings about the application of the Three Strikes Law to Lisherness. A Skagit County jury found Lisherness guilty of Rape in the Second Degree and Unlawful imprisonment after a six day jury trial. Lisherness had two prior convictions for most serious offenses, Indecent Liberties and Lewd and Lascivious Conduct on a Child.
The prosecution against Lisherness was handled by Chief Criminal Deputy Dona Bracke and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Ron Costeck. Chief Criminal Deputy Bracke said, The Mount Vernon Police Department, especially Detective Joel McCloud, did an excellent job investigating the case, and creating the foundation for an effective prosecution. This represents a true team effort between the Mount Vernon Police and the Skagit County Prosecutors Office.
