August 26, 2002 PUBLIC INVITED TO RAINBOW BRIDGE RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY Event scheduled for September 4th to celebrate completion of new paint job SKAGIT COUNTY - Thanks to a successful partnership between Skagit County and the Swinomish Tribal Community, the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT), the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Town of La Conner, the historic "Rainbow Bridge" has received a bright, new coat of "International Orange" paint three months ahead of schedule. The project was managed by Skagit County. To celebrate the successful project, the public is invited to a ribbon cutting planned for 11 a.m., September 4, 2002 at Pioneer Park in La Conner. Dignitaries from the Swinomish Tribal Community, Skagit County, the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Washington Department of Transportation will be on hand for the ceremony. Kathleen B. Davis, Director for Highways and Local Programs with WSDOT, will also be on hand. "This bridge has played a vital and historic role in the development of Skagit County's road system," said Skagit County Commissioner Don Munks.
