Burn restrictions have been modified in Skagit County

Due to the increase in fuel moisture levels and available fire resources, the Fire Marshal’s Office will modify the burn ban as of Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 8:00 am for the unincorporated areas of Skagit County, to allow recreational burning only. Recreational fires are less then 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet high, used for cooking or pleasure.

Debris Burning Burn Ban to be lifted on September 2, 2008 at 8:00 am.

Debris burning fires (natural vegetation only) less than 4 feet in diameter will be allowed as of Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008 at 8:00 am. Written burn permits for larger fires will be available by appointment no earlier than Tuesday September 2nd, 2008.

A permanent ban on open burning remains in effect in the Cities of Anacortes, Burlington, Concrete, Hamilton, La Conner, Lyman, Mount Vernon, and Sedro Woolley and their urban growth areas. If you live in an area where open burning is allowed and want to have a fire that is over 4 feet in diameter you must call (360) 428-3293 on or after Tuesday September 2nd, 2008 to obtain a burn permit. As always burning garbage and the use of burn barrels is illegal state wide and subject to fines up to $1,000.00.
