August 28, 2003 SKAGIT COUNTYS NATURAL HAZARDS MITIGATION PLAN IS COMPLETE Promulgation ceremony to recognize participants slated for September 18 SKAGIT COUNTY A collaborative effort between cities, towns, tribes, and special purpose districts produced one of the nations first multi-jurisdictional Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan. These plans are now required to receive federal disaster relief funding from the federal government. To celebrate the recent completion of the document, the Skagit Natural Hazards Mitigation Steering Committee is planning a signing ceremony and press conference scheduled for September 18, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at the Skagit 911 Center which is located at 2911 East College Way. Invitations have been sent to the media, local elected officials, and participants from state and federal agencies. This plan was made possible because of the gracious spirit of cooperation of Skagit County Dike District #12, said Mark Watkinson, Skagit County Department of Emergency Management. Without their unselfish willingness to partner with the City of Burlington and Skagit County to obtain a Hazard Mitigation Planning Grant, this plan may not have been written. Bennett, Commissioner, Dike District #12 The plan was made possible with grant funding from the Washington State Military Department and the Emergency Management Department of Homeland Security with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. In addition local jurisdictions, Indian tribes, and special purpose districts provided staff time and resources to help complete the plan.
