Public invited to Open House to review possible locations of larger Jail and Criminal Justice Center in Downtown Mount Vernon

SKAGIT COUNTY – The public is invited to a Community Open House on criminal justice and public safety in Skagit County to address possible locations for a larger jail and justice center in Downtown Mount Vernon. The Open House will be held Monday, September 15, 2008 at Skagit Station in Downtown Mount Vernon from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.

The main topic of discussion is location of a larger jail and criminal justice center. The two top locations being considered are south of Kincaid Street. Aerial photographs, maps, and drawings will be available for viewing. Participants in the open house will be able to ask questions to Skagit County’s consultants on the proposed project and speak with representatives from Skagit County’s Law and Justice Council.

Post cards have been mailed to residents, businesses, and property owners living near the two proposed sites.

“We appreciate the amount of community involvement to find an appropriate location for new criminal justice center,” said Skagit County Sheriff Rick Grimstead. “We want to hear from as many residents and property owners as possible before we move forward.”

For more information, call the Skagit County Commissioners office at 360-336-9300.
