Use of ballot drop box locations increases dramatically in primary election

SKAGIT COUNTY – Skagit County voters took full advantage of the seven ballot drop box locations during the August primary election in Skagit County, according to Skagit County Auditor Jeanne Youngquist.

“Usage went from 15 percent in the Presidential Preference election to 35 percent for this election,” said Youngquist. “People who vote on the last day don’t have to worry about getting their ballot postmarked in time.”

The drop boxes are at the following locations.

Partial funding for the local ballot drop boxes was provided through a HAVA “Help America Vote Act” federal grant, entitled EAID “Election Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities”.  The Ballot Drop Boxes enable persons with disabilities to connect their votes directly with the election process for a 20 day period prior to Election Day deadlines.  These individuals may find less dependence on care givers for transportation and are given some flexibility around our Northwest weather.    The Permanent Ballot Drop Boxes offers an option to our communities of registered voters.
