MOUNT VERNON, WA: Detectives expect to be back out in the Silver Creek neighborhood Thursday finishing their on-scene investigations at several houses and surrounding properties where five people were killed and two were injured in a crime spree that began here Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators faced extraordinary circumstances Wednesday given the size of the lots in the Alger neighborhood - five-acre parcels in some cases. Additional fingerprint teams and crime scene investigators were called in to help process the numerous scenes simultaneously. Deputy Anne Jackson and two other victims were removed from the scenes late this afternoon. Authorities expect all the victims to be removed from the crime scenes before dark tonight.
Several vehicles have been impounded. Those vehicles will be processed at a later date.
The names of the victims in the Silver Creek neighborhood have not been released by the Skagit County Coroner's Office yet. However, the coroner identified the driver who was shot and killed along I-5 as 64-year-old Leroy Lange of Methow. Lange was driving a 2008 Honda CRV.
Authorities also confirmed that the woman whose body was discovered at 19526 Silver Creek Drive was 48-years-old. Her 56-year-old husband who suffered a gunshot wound and ran to a neighbor's house for help is being treated at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bellingham. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The next press conference is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mount Vernon Police Campus at 1805 Continental Place.
There is no additional information
to release.
2:44 PM
Detectives began the on-scene part of their massive investigation into Tuesday
afternoon's violent rampage in Skagit County that left six people dead - including
a Skagit County Sheriff's deputy.
The exact timeline of events is still a mystery, but detectives believe the violence started in the Silver Creek Drive/Bridle Place neighborhood in Alger, proceeded to a Shell gas station in Alger and ended up south-bound on I-5 where a driver was killed and a Washington State Patrol trooper was shot.
Isaac Lee Zamora, a 28-year-old Alger man, has been arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail on two counts of attempted first-degree murder. Additional booking charges for Zamora are expected as the investigation continues. Authorities say they aren't looking for any other suspects.
Zamora was expected to make his first court appearance today at Skagit County District Court, and then be taken back to Snohomish County Jail where he's being held.
