PUBLIC INVITED TO GROUND-BREAKING CELEBRATION SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 12 FOR EAST COUNTY COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER

SKAGIT COUNTY - A ground-breaking celebration is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Thursday September 12, for the East County Community Resource Center. Local dignitaries will meet at the Concrete Senior Center parking lot to turn the first shovel of dirt. The public is invited and refreshments will be provided.

"I encourage everyone to attend this event," said Skagit Commissioner Ted Anderson. "This project is a great collaborative effort by the entire community."

The Skagit County Board of Commissioners awarded a contract to construct the new 4,400 square foot facility to John Daniels Construction of Bellingham. The new structure will provide space for Skagit County Community Action, Skagit County Public Health, Skagit Upriver Services, Skagit County Commissioners Satellite and possible the Upper Skagit Library Office.

The total cost of the project is $1,247,350, with $940,500 of that total being funded by a State of Washington Community Trade and Economic Development Grant and a Community Development Block Grant. The Town of Concrete contributed $15,200, with the balance of $291,600 covered by Skagit County.

"The entire community is excited about this project," said Cheri Cook-Blodgett, of the Skagit County Upriver Services Office. "There's lots of enthusiasm for a party!"
