SAMPLEY HIRED AS INTERIM SKAGIT COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR

SKAGIT COUNTY – The Skagit County Board of Commissioners today announced the hiring of Gene Sampley as interim Public Works Director/County Engineer. “We are very impressed by Gene’s credentials and experience in public works management,” said Commissioner Ken Dahlstedt.

Sampley has more than 32 years of experience in municipal engineering and public works management. He previously served as Skagit County Public Works Director from 1978 to 1987. He also held the position of Director of Public Works and Utilities for the City of Bremerton, Washington from 1995 to 2004.

In addition to his public sector experience, Sampley has years of experience in the private sector as a manager and senior director. He currently owns and operates his own consulting business specializing in municipal public works management.

“It is a pleasure to be back in Skagit County. I had a great experience here in the past and I look forward to my interim role,” said Sampley.

Former Skagit County Public Works Director Chal Martin recently took a position with the City of Burlington. The formal process for hiring a permanent Public Works Director will begin in January, according to Skagit County Administrator Gary Rowe.
