SKAGIT COUNTY RECEIVES 400 ACRES AT FRAILEY MOUNTAIN FOR PARK AND FIRING RANGE

SKAGIT COUNTY – In a unanimous vote yesterday, the Washington State Board of Natural Resources(DNR) approved the conveyance of 400 acres of state trust lands to Skagit County for a park and firing range. Skagit County requested that the land be given back to Skagit County to meet recreational needs, consistent with the statewide Outdoor Recreation Plan.

“This was a long time coming and created much public discussion. We’re excited to see it finally happen,” said Skagit County Commissioner Ted Anderson.

Approximately 80 acres of the park is planned to be managed as a firing range open to the public and law enforcement agencies. A site plan configuration will allow for substantial forest buffers, roads and pathways. A concessionaire will build and operate the regional shooting range and training facility.

DNR will retain mineral rights, access through the property to other state-owned lands, and will manage the forest on the parcel.

“This facility is really needed not only for local law enforcement, but for the thousands of recreational shooters who need a safe, secure place to pursue their hobby,” said Anderson.
