September 24, 2002 COMMISSIONERS HIRE GARY ROWE FOR COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR JOB SKAGIT COUNTY - Skagit County has a new administrator. Today, Commissioner Don Munks announced the hiring of Gary Rowe of Nordland,Washington. Rowe is currently the Deputy Administrator/Central Services Director of Jefferson County. He brings more than 27 years of government administrative experience to his new post. Current Administrator Roy Atwood will step into the Human Resources Director role for Skagit County. "It's been a long and laborious process to find the right candidate for this position. We think that Gary has the broad base of experience we need here in Skagit County," said Munks. Rowe's duties for Jefferson County included budget management, strategic planning and management of central services. Prior to his position as Deputy Administrator, he served as Public Works Director and Public Services Director. He is a past president of the Washington State Association of County Engineers and was honored as Rural County Engineer of the Year in 1995. He also served as past President of the National Association of County Engineers. "In my position in Jefferson County I have had the depth and breadth of experience needed by a county administrator," said Rowe. "I have the technical understanding associated with programs. As a budget manager I have the experience needed to manage funds, prepare forecasts, and control costs." Rowe also cited his experience in working with state and local officials and his involvement in transportation and salmon issues. Rowe's first day as Skagit County Administrator will be October 14, 2002. His starting salary is $85,000.
