COUNTY COMMISSIONERS APPROVE $700,000 FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS UTILIZING WASHINGTON STATE DISTRESSED COUNTY FUNDS

SKAGIT COUNTY - Skagit County Commissioners recently signed resolutions approving $700,000 for the funding of several public facility projects in Skagit County. Projects approved for funding are:

Public Utility District #1: Water Improvement Project $96,000
Skagit Regional Public Facility District: Skagit Performing Arts Center and Convention Center $200,000
Town of La Conner: Industrial Right-of-Way Improvements $108,000
City of Anacortes: Reservation Road Sewer Extension $105,000
City of Anacortes: Archway Project $25,000
Town of Hamilton: Water System Improvements $166,000

Skagit County receives a .08% rebate on sales tax from Washington State for public facility financing. In 2000 the Board of Skagit County Commissioners adopted Resolution 17837, issuing bonds of $8,000,000 to finance public facility projects within Skagit County with the principal and interest being paid from sales tax collected. A Public Facilities Committee meets regularly to make recommendations to the Commissioners.

These funds are vital for the development and maintenance of our infrastructure in Skagit County, said Skagit County Commissioner Don Munks.

Through February 2002, $10,062,650 has been awarded to projects funded by Rural County Sales and Use Tax.
