TYNE APPOINTED PERMANENT SKAGIT COUNTY PUBLIC DEFENDER

SKAGIT COUNTY – Keith W. Tyne has been appointed from interim to permanent Public Defender for Skagit County. Last April, Tyne replaced Gary I. Gaer, who had stepped down from the position due to illness. Tyne previously served as Chief Deputy.

A committee met in accordance with RCW 36.26.030 comprised of Skagit County Chairman of the Board of Commissioners Ted Anderson, John Meyer, Superior Court Judge, and Ken Evans, a member of the Skagit County Bar Association. The committee unanimously recommended the appointment of Tyne to the office.

The Skagit County’s Public Defender office provides defense services for indigents charged with criminal offenses, juveniles charged with criminal offenses, at-risk juveniles, indigent parents in child dependency cases and respondents in mental health proceedings.

Tyne holds a law degree from Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio. He has been employed by the Public Defenders office since 1990.
