WSDOT EXTENDS CHUCKANUT DRIVE CLOSURE TWO DAYS
BURLINGTON The Washington State Department of Transportation is extending the weeklong closure of Chuckanut Drive (State Route 11) for two more days to replace the Edison Slough culvert. The highway is currently closed while crews finish installing the new, larger box culvert.
Crews will keep Chuckanut Drive closed through Friday, Oct. 1 at Edison Slough, just south of Bow Hill Road. WSDOT is replacing the existing box culvert with a new one that is 100 square feet larger to help prevent flooding and improve fish passage.
We encountered more water in the slough then expected, and that slowed us down, said Assistant Project Engineer Mark Hammer. We know that many drivers rely on this route and our crews are working to reopen the highway as soon as possible.
To help drivers navigate around the closure WSDOT will provide signed detour routes. WSDOT suggests drivers traveling southbound on Chuckanut Drive turn left on Bow Hill Road and then turn right on Ershig Road to get back to Chuckanut Drive and the reverse for drivers heading northbound.
