SKAGIT COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT TO RECEIVE "STORMREADY" CERTIFICATION

SKAGIT COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) will present the Skagit County Department of Emergency Management a certificate declaring Skagit County “StormReady.”
The presentation will take place during the Skagit County Flood Awareness Week Breakfast, scheduled for Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at 8:00 a.m. at the Cranberry Tree Restaurant in Mount Vernon. The “StormReady” ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m.

The Skagit County Department of Emergency Management completed the application process to make Anacortes, Burlington, Concrete, Hamilton, La Conner, Lyman, Mount Vernon, Sedro-Woolley and the unincorporated Skagit County "StormReady" Communities. The Washington State “StormReady” Advisory Board approved the application and has hereby recognized all of Skagit County as a “StormReady” Community.

“StormReady” communities are better prepared to save lives from the onslaught of severe weather through better planning, education, and awareness. No community is storm proof, but “StormReady” can help communities save lives. This designation as a “StormReady” Community allows each of the jurisdictions in Skagit County who have participated in the National Flood Insurance – Community Rating System to apply for additional points which will help to provide a further reduction in flood insurance rates.
