Skagit County to Host Webinar for new Online Permit Software

On November 12, 2024, the Skagit County Planning and Development Services Department plans to launch a new online permitting software from Tyler Technologies. Skagit County and Tyler Technologies have been working over the last year and half to build a system that will increase the efficiency of processing permits for both citizens and staff.

There will be a temporary pause on the acceptance of new online permit applications from November 1st through the new software launch on November 12th. Paper applications will be accepted at this time, but they will not be processed until the new software is running on November 12th.

Planning & Development Services Staff will host an online webinar on Monday, November 4th, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. to provide a demonstration of the software application and take questions from the public. Please use the link below to join us!

After November 12th, applicants will have the convenience of applying for permits via Skagit County’s website using Tyler Technology’s user-friendly platform: Civic Access. Civic Access increases transparency and efficiency by providing applicants with online access to permit applications, permit status updates, direct requests for inspections, pay invoices, and more. For those who prefer in-person transactions, applying for permits will still be an option at the Planning and Development Services permit counter with a new customer kiosk computer. Staff will be available to provide guided assistance during regular business hours.

The Planning and Development Services Department aims to streamline the permitting process for customers and staff to reduce processing times and create a more efficient submittal and approval process for our customers. The previous permitting software, Permits Plus, was installed in 1997 and has reached the end of its useful life. Soon, this software will no longer be updated and available by our vendor. The new software is more up to date to meet our current technology needs, has a user-friendly interface for both the customer and staff, and will ensure we are able to retain our historical permit data.
