4,807 new voters register in Skagit County
SKAGIT COUNTY – Ballots for the November 4, 2008 election will be mailed Wednesday, October 15, 2008, according to Skagit County Auditor Jeanne Youngquist. “Voter registration is in high gear with 4,807 new voters registered in Skagit County since the August Primary Election,” she said. “Registration for first time voters only is open until October 20, 2008.”
New voters must come to the Auditor’s Office Election Division in person to register. On Monday, October 20, 2008, the office will remain open until 8:00 p.m. to facilitate the deadline; otherwise, office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The deadline for on-line or mail-in registration was Saturday, October 4, 2008. “We expect to receive the last bundle of on-line registrations from the Secretary of State’s office this week,” said Youngquist.
All new registrations are authenticated by sending a return postcard for an additional signature to the address presented upon registration.
Voters are encouraged to follow the directions on both the ballot and the envelopes provided and to be sure to sign the return envelope. Ballots must be postmarked by November 4, 2008 on Election Day or placed into official election drop boxes by 8:00 p.m. The boxes are located in Anacortes, Burlington, Concrete, La Conner, Sedro-Woolley and Mount Vernon.
Auditors across the state are predicting a voter turnout of between 85 and 90 percent, according to
Youngquist.
