DEADLINE FOR APPEALS OF PROPERTY RE-EVALUATIONS IS OCTOBER 27

SKAGIT COUNTY – The deadline to submit an appeal of the recent property re-evaluations by the Skagit County Assessor’s office is Monday, October 27, 2003 at 4:30 p.m. An appeal form can be picked up at the Assessor’s office at 700 South 3rd Street on the second floor of the County Administration Building or can be accessed on the internet at www.skagitcounty.net on either the Assessor’s or Board of Equalization web pages, according to Assessor Mark Leander.

Physical assessments, which are individual appraisals, were conducted in the Anacortes School District, according to Leander. Physical assessments are conducted in each school district every four years. In addition, assessments were done in conjunction with new construction and statistical adjustments were made in some areas.

Leander encourages anyone with questions about their property valuation to call his office at 336-9370. He also stated that seniors over 61 years of age and people with disabilities with disposable incomes less than $30,000 annually may qualify for discounts on their property tax.

Property owners have 30 days to challenge their valuation and present their case to the Board of Equalization.

“We encourage anyone with any questions about the value of their property to contact us,” said Leander. “Washington State Law requires that all property be assessed at 100% of fair market value.
