CONCRETE MAIN STREET RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT WINS AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

SKAGIT COUNTY – The Concrete Main Street Reconstruction Project received the 2006 Award of Excellence from the Federal Highway Administration and Washington State Department of Transportation in a presentation yesterday in the Skagit County Board of Commissioners Hearing Room.

The project was a partnership between the Town of Concrete, Skagit County, the Federal Highway Administration, the Washington State Department of Transportation, the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board, and the residents and businesses of Concrete. The project was managed by Skagit County Public Works. The design engineer was Leonard, Boudinot and Skodje, Inc. The contractor was Snelson Companies, Inc.

Total cost and funding for the project was $1.9 million including design, permitting, right-of-way, and construction. In addition to federal funding the project also received funding from the State of Washington and Skagit County.

Kevin W. Ward, Assistant Division Administrator with the Federal Highway Administration and Ed Conyers, Local Programs Engineer with the Washington State Department of Transportation were on hand to present the award to Concrete Mayor Jack Billman and former Concrete Mayor John Rantschler.

“It was a great community effort,” said Commissioner Ted Anderson. “Concrete is on the upswing with this project and the new Family Resource Center.”

Rantschler congratulated Skagit County Public Works Assistant Director Janice Marlega, who managed the project. “It was like a tornado when Janice took over,” he said.

Washington State Representatives Kirk Pearson and Dan Kristiansen from the 39th District attended the ceremony.
