SOME SCHOOL DISTRICTS RUNNING LATE THIS MORNING

ALL SKAGIT COUNTY OFFICES OPERATING REGULAR HOURS

SKAGIT RIVER LEVELS STILL AT FLOOD STAGE, DROPPING SLOWLY

Burlington-Edison and La Conner School Districts are running on schedule. Mount Vernon is two hours late. Washington Elementary School is closed with no bus transportation on the west side of Mount Vernon. Sedro-Woolley is 2 hours late. Conway is 2 hours late, no morning kindergarten, no bus service to Fir Island or Dike Road. Concrete school is 2 hours late, with limited bus runs because of closed roads, no Head Start or Pre-School.

All Skagit County government offices are operating at regular business hours.

According to the National Weather Service, the Skagit River crested at Mount Vernon at 36.2 feet at around midnight, October 21. At 6:00 AM today the level at the Mount Vernon gauge was 34.90 feet.

The Skagit crested at 42.2 feet at Concrete at 6:45 AM yesterday and is slowly receding. At 6:00 AM today the Skagit River at Concrete was still above flood stage at 31.73 feet. Flood stage at both Concrete and Mount Vernon is 28 feet.

The National Weather Service predicts that the Skagit River will drop below flood stage briefly by Wednesday afternoon then rise a few feet again before dropping below flood stage Saturday.

The US Army Corps of Engineers advises that the South Fork Bridge over the Skagit River will be closed until noon today. One lane will periodically be open for a short time for limited traffic movement. The purpose of the closure is to remove an extensive debris jam from the bridge.

County and other officials and work crews continue to monitor the situation closely and take appropriate actions as necessary. Additional news releases will be issued as new information warrants.
