October 23, 2002 Munks to serve on NACO Environment, Energy and Land Use Steering Committee SKAGIT COUNTY - Skagit County Commissioner Don Munks has been appointed to the National Association of Counties' (NACo) Environment, Energy and Land Use Steering Committee. The Environment, Energy and Land Use Steering Committee focuses on air, water, and noise pollution control; solid and hazardous waste management and disposal; the preservation and proper utilization of water resources; energy and the use of land resources, including comprehensive planning, coastal zone management, growth management, energy facilities siting and recreation. The steering committee's recommendations on legislative policies and goals are presented to NACo's membership during the association's annual conference. If approved, the recommendations become part of the American County Platform, which is the basis of NACo's efforts in representing counties before Congress and the White House. "It is a privilege to serve on this committee. Skagit County needs to be at the table in addressing these important issues," said Munks. NACo is the only national organization representing county governments in the United States. Its goals are to improve county government, act as a liaison with other levels of government, present the county position on national issues and advance public understanding of the role of counties.
