SOLID WASTE EMERGENCY FLOOD AID AVAILABLE FOR DISPOSAL OF DAMAGED HOUSEHOLD ITEMS

Fees waived for flood victims to dispose of household items damaged by flood waters

SKAGIT COUNTY - County residents affected by the recent flood who have damaged private household items such as furniture, carpeting, spoiled food, appliances, and water-soaked plasterboard can dispose of them at no charge at the Skagit County Transfer Station at Fredonia, Clear Lake Compactor Site, and the Sauk Transfer Station near Concrete. A voucher is required and can be obtained from the American Red Cross or at the East County Community Resource Center Building, at 45770 Main Street in Concrete.

This voucher program begins Saturday, October 25, and runs through Sunday, November 23. The program is limited to legitimate residential flood victims. Commercial waste is not included. To participate in this program, people who need to dispose of flood damaged household materials should contact the nearest American Red Cross office or the East County Resource Center.

When the voucher holder takes a load of damaged household material to a transfer station, the voucher will be given to the site attendant and the normal fee will be waived.

The Household Hazardous Waste facility located at the Fredonia Transfer Station will be open seven days a week starting on Saturday, October 25, through November 8. The Sauk Transfer Station is adding two additional days per week and will be open Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday during this period. A household hazardous waste facility is also planned for the Sauk Transfer Station at a later date.
