Skagit County Commissioners to honor Washington State Senator Harriet Spanel with Proclamation

SKAGIT COUNTY - The Skagit County Board of Commissioners will sign a proclamation honoring Washington State Senator Harriet Spanel on Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. in the Commissioners’ Hearing Room. The public is invited to attend.

Senator Spanel has served the 40th District since 1987, first in the House of Representatives. She was elected as State Senator in 1993. Her term expires in January 2009, and she is not seeking re-election.

Skagit County Commissioner Don Munks said “We very much appreciate all the years of service Senator Spanel has given to her constituents here in Skagit County. When County government sought help in funding projects, Harriet was always there to support, listen and be of assistance.”

“Harriet has been a true friend of Skagit County for many, many years,” said Commissioner Ken Dahlstedt. “She will be sorely missed, not only by her constituents locally, but throughout the State.”

Commissioner Sharon Dillon added “Working with Harriet through the years has not only been a pleasure, but her decisions have always been beneficial for Skagit County. I will miss working with her on a regular basis.”

Senator Spanel currently serves as the Senate Democratic Caucus Chair and has previously served a Majority Floor Leader and Majority Whip.
